Old Venetian Harbor (Chania Town)

A city of many tales, ancient, old and contemporary, Greek and yet not only. Chania is one of the most appealing and worldwide popular tourist destinations of Greece, attracting every year, all year round, thousands of visitors and faithful lovers who repeatedly return to this mistress/city that has been so generously blessed by nature and densely woven by history.

Elafonisi Beach

Elafonisi is an island located close to the southwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Crete, of which it is administratively a part, in the regional unit of Chania. When the weather is fine it is possible to walk to the island through the shallow water. The island is a protected nature reserve. It is known for its pink sand beaches, created by tidal and wave-induced deposits of pigmented microorganisms living in a symbiotic relationship with native seaweed.

Balos Lagoon

Some amazing places are only accessible by boat while others are also accessible by car but who can resist a cruise around the island and pit stop for a swim at some incredible turquoise waters? During the summer season, small and medium sized cruise boats embark on daily cruises on the northwestern side of the island.

Samariá Gorge

The gorge is in southwest Crete in the regional unit of Chania. It was created by a small river running between the White Mountains (Lefká Óri) and Mt. Volakias. There are a number of other gorges in the White Mountains. While some say that the gorge is 18 km long, this distance refers to the distance between the settlement of Omalos on the northern side of the plateau and the village of Agia Roumeli.

cretan food

The Cretan diet basically constitutes the cornerstone of the world known Mediterranean nutrition. Behind each delicious flavor and aroma, behind each unique yet harmonious combination of ingredients and products, lies a historical and cultural testimony of a process that took place for thousands of years, from generation to generation and carries within the essence of life in Crete. The Cretan society, up to this day, is a somewhat traditional society with tightly-knit family ties, centuries old customs that are still celebrated and Christian Greek orthodox traditions that hold a significant place, with food being in the center of it all.
